Check the weather on cleaning day
If the weather is too hot when you clean your windows the soap and water will dry too quickly, this will create more streaks which is the last thing you want. Cooler weather will be the prefect time for window cleaning. If the weather is particularly hot then maybe wait for it to cool down slightly, or it will take you much longer to remove the streaks.
Start by removing dirt and grime
First off remover dust, dirt and grime, you can use a cloth or hoover (with soft head attachment). Doing so first will make the windows quicker and easier to clean as the dirt wont get mixed in with the window cleaning solution. Clean all surrounding areas such as blinds or shutters as these will also collect dust. Just wiping down with a dry microfibre cloth will do.
Use plenty of glass cleaner in the next phase of cleaning. Not using enough will just result in the task taking longer. Spray generous amounts of glass cleaning solution over all areas of the windows.
If you don’t have ready made glass cleaner solution no need to worry as here is how you can make your own.
1/4 cup of white vinegar
1/4 teaspoon washing up liquid
2 cups of water
pour together into a spray bottle, shake together well.
Always label the bottle
Next use a microfibre cloth
After you have liberally sprayed your window cleaning solution across all areas of your windows, use a microfibre cloth to remover the solution ensuring to cover all areas. Microfibre cloths are the best option for this step as they are highly absorbent and will create a steak free clean window every time. The cloth will take away any unsightly water marks and streaks. Always wipe horizontally, then vertically. Wipe side to side then up and down, this will reduce the chance of any unsightly streaks.
Hard water stains
Hard water stains can be very tricky to remove and look unsightly. For these more stubborn stains you will need a different solution to remove them. This is how to make the solution you need.
One part washing up liquid
One part lemon juice
Add to a spray bottle then fill it up with vinegar and shake well.
Always label the bottle
Next spray to the water stained area, leave for 20-30 minutes then scrub the area with a scrubbing brush. This should remove all water stains.
